In Community Music, you'll learn and experience the benefits of introducing music into different settings within a range of community contexts.

You'll be introduced to a music-making approach that stresses active collaboration through creative song writing, improvisation and group performance.

Program Highlights

Laurier is the only university in Canada to offer an undergraduate program in Community Music.

Flexible in course requirements, you will have enough room to pursue a minor or double degree in an area outside of the Faculty of Music.

Many courses have been designed by recent graduates of our Master of Arts in Community Music program, meaning course content is fresh and innovative.

In 2013, Laurier was voted Canada’s Best Music Campus by CBC Radio.

Throughout all four years you will be performing, learning and improving your musicianship. Small group instruction and large ensemble work is available to all students.

Laurier hosted the first North American Community Music Conference.

Students must have completed an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent qualification. English language requirement: Internet-based testing (TOEFL iBT): an overall score of 83 or higher with a minimum score of 20 in each component; Paper-based testing: 560 overall, IELTS: An academic score of 6.5 or higher with a minimum of 6.0 in each band, PTE: 59 overall or higher, CAE: Overall score of 176. In acknowledgement of the various grading scales used throughout China, the grading scale on the transcript will be used. Grades are converted to reflect a 50% pass.
