There are numerous mathematics modules that cater to varying degree and career objectives. Interested student are encouraged to contact us or the math department representatives at information sessions at intent to register in February/March of each year.

We encourage our undergraduates to work closely with faculty through undergraduate research programs, the Mathematics Scholars Group and the pizza seminar. Faculty members have successfully mentored scholar’s elective students and we look forward to helping many more.

Completion of first-year requirements with no failures. Students must have an average of at least 70% in 3.0 principal courses, including:

0.5 course: Calculus 1000A/B, Calculus 1500A/B or the former Calculus 1100A/B;

0.5 course: (Calculus 1501A/B (recommended)) or (Calculus 1301A/B with a mark of at least 85%);

plus 2.0 additional courses, with no mark in these principal courses below 60%. Mathematics 1600A/B, and Mathematics 1120A/B, if taken in first year, will count toward the 3.0 principal courses.

Mathematics 1120A/B and Mathematics 1600A/B are recommended.

Note: Mathematics 1600A/B must be completed prior to Mathematics 2120A/B.

2.5 courses from: Actuarial Science 2553A/B, Applied Mathematics 2402A, Mathematics 2814F/G, Mathematics 3811A/B, Mathematics 3815A/B, Computer Science 2209A/B, Computer Science 2210A/B, Computer Science 3331A/B, Computer Science 3340A/B, Earth Sciences 2222A/B, Economics 2210A/B, Mathematics 2124A/B, Mathematics 2156A/B, Mathematics 2251F/G, Mathematics 3124A/B, Mathematics 3152A/B, Mathematics 4158A/B/Y, Philosophy 2250, Philosophy 2251F/G, Philosophy 2252W/X, Philosophy 2254A/B, Philosophy 3201A/B, Philosophy 3202B, Philosophy 4201A/B, Philosophy 4202A/B, Statistical Sciences 2857A/B, Statistical Sciences 2858A/B, the former Statistical Sciences 2657A. Note that some of these courses have prerequisites that are not part of the module.

3.0 courses from: Actuarial Sciences, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Financial Modelling, Mathematics, or Statistical Sciences courses, at the 2100 level or above.

It is strongly recommended that Mathematics 2122A/B be completed in the year of entry into the module.

Note: Students intending to pursue graduate studies in Pure Mathematics should take the Honors Specialization in Mathematics module.
