The Psychology Department at Western has over 50 faculty members doing research and teaching in seven Areas of Research Excellence including Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience, Clinical, Cognition, Developmental, Industrial/Organizational, Personality/Measurement, and Social. Undergraduate students often work with faculty, graduate and post-graduate students on cutting-edge questions about human and animal behavior.

Western offers several undergraduate programs in Psychology to accommodate students with varying interests. If you’re thinking about a career in Psychology or a related discipline, you should consider one of our Honors Specialization programs. If you’d like to develop a good understanding of the discipline of Psychology, our Major is the program for you. A Psychology Major can be combined with a Major in another discipline to create an Honors Double Major degree, a valuable stepping stone to many professional programs such as Business, Education, Medicine, and Law. If you’d like to study Psychology as part of your general education, or as a complement to your training in another discipline, our Psychology Minor degree would be a good choice.

Purpose of Hon. BSc. Module: To provide a thorough grounding in the principles of Psychology for students who may wish to pursue graduate training in Psychology and for students who prefer a more research-intensive approach to the study of Psychology than is provided under either the Major or Minor programs in Psychology. This module focuses on the biological foundations of behavior, with courses primarily in the areas of neuroscience, cognition, sensation, and perception.

Applicants must complete the full International Baccalaureate Diploma including each of the following to be considered for admission: Completion of the entire Diploma including the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay; Passes in a minimum of 6 subjects of which 3 must be at the Higher Level; A minimum grade total of 28 including points awarded for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge; No mark less than 4 on any individual course; Prerequisites for your program as specified by Western. Other English Language Requirements accepted: Minimum score required on the TOEFL is 550 on the paper based with a 5 on the TWE, and 83 on the internet-based tests with no score below 20; Pearson Test of English Academic: A minimum overall score of 58 is required with no score less than 56; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): A minimum overall score of 80 is required with no score less than 78; International English Language Testing Service (IELTS): a minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no part less than 6.0; CanTEST: A minimum overall score of 4.0 is required with no part less than 4.0; CAEL: A minimum overall score of 60 is required with no part less than 60.
