Western’s Music students excel in our program thanks to one-on-one weekly lessons, access to one of the top three music libraries on the continent, and master classes with the finest musicians from around the world. Each year, our students participate in a variety of musical activities in the community, in addition to presenting fully staged operas on campus.

These combined programs are five-year compressed, collaborative programs leading to a Bachelor of Musical Arts (Honors Music), Bachelor of Arts (Honors Specialization in Music), or Bachelor of Arts (Major in Music) and a BA in Honors Business Administration (HBA).

This program mainly focuses on Bachelor of Musical Arts.

Program Description

Year 1: taken in the Faculty of Music, regular full course load (BMA or BA requirements)
Year 2: taken in the Faculty of Music, regular full course load (BMA or BA requirements) Prerequisite for HBA: Business Administration 2257 (taken as year 2 non-music elective)
Year 3: HBA 1 – taken in the Ivey School of Business
Years 4 & 5: 5.0 Music courses and 6.0 HBA2 credits divided across two years

Degrees

Upon graduation from this combined program, students will receive a Bachelor of Musical Arts (Honors Music), and a BA in Honors Business Administration.

Applicants must complete the full International Baccalaureate Diploma including each of the following to be considered for admission: Completion of the entire Diploma including the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay; Passes in a minimum of 6 subjects of which 3 must be at the Higher Level; A minimum grade total of 28 including points awarded for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge; No mark less than 4 on any individual course; Prerequisites for your program as specified by Western. Other English Language Requirements accepted: Minimum score required on the TOEFL is 550 on the paper based with a 5 on the TWE, and 83 on the internet-based tests with no score below 20; Pearson Test of English Academic: A minimum overall score of 58 is required with no score less than 56; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): A minimum overall score of 80 is required with no score less than 78; International English Language Testing Service (IELTS): a minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no part less than 6.0; CanTEST: A minimum overall score of 4.0 is required with no part less than 4.0; CAEL: A minimum overall score of 60 is required with no part less than 60.
