Western’s Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) is the foundation for anyone wishing to go on to further study to become a psychologist. If you are curious by nature, inquisitive about life and how we, as a society live and interact, this degree will expand your knowledge through theory, research and practical application.

This degree combines a broadly based, interdisciplinary social sciences three-year program with an undergraduate accredited sequence in Psychology.

You will gain a deep understanding of the complex and culturally diverse world we live in and emerge with a thorough understanding of how Psychology uses scientific techniques and methods to understand human cognition, affect and behaviour.

When you graduate, you will have the interdisciplinary and specialist skills and knowledge required for a range of careers available in areas of sociology, mental health, peace and development and counselling in both government and private sectors as well as the academic requirements to proceed to advanced study.

Your career

With a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Psychology), you can: Become a caseworker / manager and make a difference in the areas of child protection, drug and alcohol services or community health; Take on an exciting research role; Champion the vulnerable through social advocacy and activism; Get involved in Human Services and help improve aged care, communities, education providers, and transport services; Or continue on to postgraduate study and become a qualified psychologist.

Students must have Australian Year 12 Higher School Certificate in or outside Australia; International Baccalaureate in Australia; New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), Level 3. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic version): 6.5 overall score, minimum 6.0 in each subtest; TOEFL internet-based score: Total score 82, Writing 21, Speaking 18, Reading 13, Listening 13; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 58 overall; No communication skills less than 50; Successful completion of three years (Gao San) with a minimum score for entry to Second Tier universities in China from the National Entrance Examination (Gao Kao) cut off thresholds for Science and the relevant province, or successful completion of the first year of a Bachelor’s degree at a recognized university.
