Microorganisms impact on all aspects of our lives. A major in Microbiology will equip you with the skills and knowledge of microbiology and molecular microbiology relevant to employment in research laboratories and industries including biotechnology companies, medical and environmental laboratories, food, wine and pharmaceutical companies, quality assurance and scientific sales.

Science at Western

This program, which includes the study of bacteria, fungi, protists and viruses and their roles in medicine, industry and the environment, will also provide a foundation for research at Postgraduate level. The degree combines Science with learning about Education where you will take four units of study in Education Studies and be offered a place in the Master of Teaching program on successful completion of the degree.

Students must have Australian Year 12 Higher School Certificate in or outside Australia; International Baccalaureate in Australia; New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), Level 3. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic version): 6.5 overall score, minimum 6.0 in each subtest; TOEFL internet-based score: Total score 82, Writing 21, Speaking 18, Reading 13, Listening 13; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 58 overall; No communication skills less than 50; Successful completion of three years (Gao San) with a minimum score for entry to Second Tier universities in China from the National Entrance Examination (Gao Kao) cut off thresholds for Science and the relevant province, or successful completion of the first year of a Bachelor’s degree at a recognized university.
