The Entrepreneurship major allows students to develop the skills needed to start and own a business, to develop or grow an existing company, or to create an entrepreneurial environment within an organization. Entrepreneurial students are not only prepared to operate a business, they are trained to innovate within existing organizations to increase productivity and performance. Students are encouraged to develop creative and impactful solutions by thinking critically about problems relevant to a variety of organizations, and continually practice and hone these skills through hands-on engagement in real-world exercises and projects.

The Entrepreneurship Major provides a solid understanding of entrepreneurial concepts while allowing substantial flexibility. Required classes include Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial Marketing, Entrepreneurial Finance, New Venture Business Planning, Ethics and Critical Thinking, and Small Business Analysis & Policy. Students must also take two entrepreneurial electives and two approved electives in consultation with their advisor to customize their entrepreneurial interest area. One elective, the Entrepreneurship Student Lab, exists in which senior students work in a lab environment helping area entrepreneurs, other students, and entities across campus. Advisors provide guidance and assistance in helping each student choose electives based upon career objectives.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Students majoring in entrepreneurship will be qualified to start their own business, run a family business, acquire and develop an existing business, work as a manager of a small or medium-sized business, or work in a larger organization providing creative, innovative, and well thought-out solutions to complex challenges. Entrepreneurship majors are fully prepared to make a difference in their business culture, civic and philanthropic associations, and in their communities, and to understand their impact on and responsibility towards these entities.
