PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Bachelor of Science in Physics allows you to explore the nature of matter, energy, and their interactions, both theoretically and experimentally.
In this program, you learn early on about fundamental topics like electromagnetism, wave physics, thermodynamics, and relativity. Upper level courses then give you the opportunity to discuss advanced topics like quantum theory and fluid mechanics, applying principles of mathematics to the material world around you. The Physics program also includes options for Engineering and Mechatronics, if applied sciences piques your interest.

The program:

integrates classroom theory with a variety of potential lab experiments and hands-on projects.
encourages exploration of new and current ideas, and challenges you to learn and enquire about the universe in new and complex ways.

CAREER EXPECTATIONS

A study conducted by the Hamilton Project found that majors that emphasize quantitative skills tend to have graduates with the highest lifetime earnings. Physics graduates can expect to earn just as much as professionals in computer science, engineering, economics, and finance.

As a physics graduate, you can find work in government or industry labs, in technical fields such as radiation monitoring or power plants, or as a scientific equipment operator. Or you can pair your physics degree with UFV's enriched Teacher Education program to launch a teaching career.

A UFV physics degree can also position you for entry into graduate studies in any number of disciplines. Many physics graduates go on to advance their studies and careers as economists, financial consultants, industrial researchers, systems analysts, computer programmers, engineers, biophysicists, or astronomers.

Applicants must have completed the equivalent of Canadian Grade 12 (Form Six or five O-levels plus at least two A-levels) and specific program entrance requirements for admission into any career, technical, or academic program. English Language Requirement: IELTS (Academic) - score of 6.5 or higher with a minimum band score of 6.0; TOEFL - score of 88 or higher (iBT) with no section below 20; CAEL - score of 70; PTE - score of 61 with 60 in writing; Cambridge - Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) min C; Cambridge - Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) – A; MELAB - score of 85.
