The Master of Earth and Environmental Sciences is for students who wish to extend their knowledge and diversify their skill base within a range of sub-disciplines of the Earth and Environmental Sciences, and in particular, Environmental Science, Geology and Physical Geography.

What you will study
This degree will serve as a refresher program for graduates wishing to explore specific combinations of topics in greater detail; a program for professionals already practicing aspects of Earth and Environmental Sciences seeking additional analytical skills, and as a stepping stone for graduates intending to proceed to a higher degree by research, upon completion of the program.

With the appropriate qualifications and laboratory skills, you can be awarded credit for these preparatory subjects.

The degree emphasises the interconnectedness of the many sub-disciplines within the Earth and Environmental Sciences where content will be explored through the common core first year subjects.

The Master of Earth and Environmental Sciences is designed through the lens of global perspectives in science where you will use drones and artificial intelligence technology.

The principal areas of research strength within Earth & Environmental Sciences include long-term environmental changes in Earth surface environments; coastal and marine environmental ecology, geology and geochemistry; fluvial geomorphology; Quaternary geochronology; spatial analysis using geographic information systems and remote sensing; modern and ancient human-landscape interactions, and the pre-history of Australia.

A three year Bachelor degree (without Honours), but with a distinction average (75%) may also be a suitable entry requirement, if in the same discipline as the proposed program. Research related and professional experience will also be considered when assessing qualifications. The Head of Postgraduate Studies for the relevant unit will approve entry into the Master of Philosophy, based on academic results, research and professional experience. Candidates with a coursework masters degree or a four year Bachelor (Honours) degree in the same discipline may be granted up to 24cp of advanced standing for the coursework component of the Masters of Philosophy. Special Admission Requirements All applicants for research degrees must submit a written (preferably typed) proposal as part of their application. This proposal should: commence with a statement detailing any previous research or project experience you have undertaken, including if possible a copy of the abstract of such work; contain, in no more than one additional page, a clearly focussed research proposal for the study you would wish to undertake throughout your registration in the course; and conclude with a statement of your motivation for wanting to undertake the research course.
