If you want to become a Professional Mechanical Engineer, and have a 3 year engineering degree but no work experience, the Master of Engineering Science (Mechanical Engineering) will get you there.

Throughout the degree there is an emphasis on practical experience and preparing you thoroughly for the engineering profession. In addition to the hands-on laboratory sessions and 60 days industry experience, you will complete a research project and dissertation applying all your formal knowledge to a real world problem. Whether this is the efficiency of different bio-fuels, obstacle detecting robotics or the design of FSAE race cars, your project will provide insight to the profession of a Mechanical Engineer.

The research project and dissertation can also be a stepping stone to further research degrees, such as PhD.

Professional accreditation

The Master of Engineering Science (Mechanical Engineering) has been accorded full accreditation at the level of Professional Engineer by Engineers Australia and graduates are eligible for Graduate membership at the Professional Level.

Career outcomes

With the highly practical knowledge and skills you gained in the design, development and maintenance of machinery and systems, there will a wide range of career opportunities available to you including mining, transportation, manufacturing, air-conditioning and ventilation. You will often collaborate with other engineers and professionals on projects and there are great opportunities for travel with consulting and contracting engineers often moving from one major project to another.

Applicants must have Australian university three or four-year Bachelor degree in an approved discipline, or equivalent. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic only) score of 6.5 (or better)(no component lower than 6.0); TOEFL (paper based) score of 570 (with a minimum Test of Written English score TWE 5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) score of 230 (with an essay rating of at least 5); TOEFL (internet based) score of 90 (or better) (with 20 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) score of 58 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 58); Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)/ C1 Advanced or Proficiency (CPE)/C2 Proficiency with a score of 176 or above. No less than 169 in each skill.
