Health Information Management (HIM) stands at the critical intersection of medicine, business management, and information technology. Bachelor's Degree Center ranked Pitt HIM as the 5th best program in the U.S., and the Healthcare Management Degree Guide recently named Pitt HIM as 7th in the nation because it provides students with high-quality education and includes the most extensive internship requirements (four full semesters) of any other program. ​

If you have an interest in health care and information technology, health information management (HIM) may be the right career choice for you. It’s a field that is changing rapidly, as new technology makes information more accessible and new regulations evolve to safeguard individual privacy. At the University of Pittsburgh, we prepare the next generation of HIM professionals to meet that unique challenge. Our graduates manage information centers and medical records departments for hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and other healthcare settings—never forgetting that service to the patient lies at the core of their work.

Prospective students who have not earned college credits since graduating from high school with a diploma or GED should consult this section for information on admission to the University of Pittsburgh. For the Pittsburgh campus, a 100 or higher TOEFL composite score with sub scores of 21 or higher is considered competitive, or a 7.0 IELTS with sub scores of 6.0 or higher.
