The Bachelor of Science (BSc) is a three-year undergraduate degree which enables each student to develop his or her own interests in a science subject (science major) and related subjects. Students have the flexibility to combine their major subject with other science subjects, as well as subjects from other disciplines across the University.

As an internationally recognised applied discipline, the Sport Development and Management Major is founded on the global growth in sport science degrees and sport management specialisations.

It has three orientations:

• It is concerned with the quality of organisations and the societal conditions that support sport participation.
• It revolves around the enhancement of individuals and the understanding of psychological variables that help development and performance.
• It attends to sport’s growing links with community objectives such as wellness, social integration and economic renewal.

Papers examine the spectrum of people, institutions and policies that influence the structure, management and experience of sport.

162 further points (SPEX 206 Te Pa o te Ora Maori Physical Education and Health recommended); must include 54 points at 200-level or above.

Up to 90 points may be taken from outside Science.

Bachelor of Science with Honours (BSc(Hons)) is also available.

A specific aim of the Bachelor of Science with Honours (BSc(Hons)) degree is to develop advanced theoretical and research skills and in so doing to provide a platform for an advanced professional or academic career.
