Students who complete the Nevada Teach Secondary Education and Community Health Sciences program will earn a dual degree: the Bachelor of Science in Education/Secondary Education and the Bachelor of Science with a major in Community Health Sciences. This program provides students with a strong background in Community Health Sciences and includes all of the coursework required to apply for certification to teach Health at the secondary level (grades 7 -12) in the State of Nevada. Graduates of this program will be prepared to: (a) pursue an immediate career in the field of Community Health Sciences; (b) enter a graduate program; or (c) teach Health courses at the middle or high school level.

  • CHS 101 - Introduction to Community Health Sciences (3 units)
  • CHS 102 - Foundations of Personal Health and Wellness (3 units)
  • CHS 200 - Introduction to Public Health Biology (3 units)
  • CHS 211 - Technical Writing in the Health Sciences (3 units)
  • CHS 280 - Introduction to Biostatistics in Public Health (3 units)
  • CHS 315 - Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 units)
  • CHS 330 - Environmental Health (3 units) (OR CHS 230 if taken at TMCC prior to matriculation)
  • CHS 340 - Health Policy (3 units)
  • CHS 345 - Ethics and Professionalism in Public Health (3 units) CO12

To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission). Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 61 (iBT-Internet-Based Test) or 500 (Paper-Based Test), International English Language Testing System (IELTS - must be academic version) with an equivalency score of 6. Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic with an equivalency score of 57.
