Accountants are central to the operations and strategies of all types of organizations. They require integrity and the ability to think critically, communicate and interact with others effectively. Accounting is the foundation of organizational short and long-term success. It involves measuring, analyzing and reporting on factors that affect organizational performance, resources and risk.

About the Accounting major:

You will train to be an accountant, not a bookkeeper. You'll gain technical skills and learn how to address a broad range of business problems. Classes are small, allowing for one-on-one interaction with professors, who have professional accounting designations, PhDs in accounting or both. You will acquire and practice the skills needed for success, including writing, presenting, using professional tools and case analysis.

Dual campuses:

We also offer the flexibility of dual campuses on which to study: Lethbridge and Calgary. Our Calgary Campus will meet the needs of working professionals with evening and weekend classes, while the Lethbridge campus is more traditional with an emphasis on daytime classes, and a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities to explore. Both locations welcome international and mature students. We also have a means for students coming from other institutions to have previous courses considered for transfer credit, as well as a second degree program.

Senior Secondary School Certificate of Graduation and an average grade of 72% or higher (where 60% is the passing grade). English Language Requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within the last two years, with minimum scores of: 550 on the paper-based TOEFL and 4.0 on the Test of Written English (TWE); or 80 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT), with minimum scores of 16 in each of Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and a minimum score of 18 in Writing; Academic International English Languages Testing System (IELTS) test, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 6.0, and a minimum 6.0 in each band; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic score, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 54; Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 60, with a minimum 50 in each of Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and 60 in Writing; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), with a minimum score of ‘C’; Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE), with a minimum score of at ‘C’; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB), with a minimum overall score of 80, with a minimum 76 in each component, including the Speaking test.
