Finance is the study of financial decision making in investment, portfolio management and corporate finance as well as managing risk in a volatile economy. Finance incorporates the basics of economics, accounting and statistics through quantitative and qualitative methods.

As a student you'll experience the best financial management education through our hands-on training inside and outside the classroom. Our world class Centre for Financial Market Research and Teaching, or 'trading room" is fully integrated into our teaching, bridging your academic knowledge and practical experience, making you career ready.

About the Finance major

As a major in finance, you'll study areas such as corporate and personal finance, fundamentals of investments, global financial management, financial technology (FinTech), managerial skill development, and management policy and strategy. You will draw from fields such as economics, human resources management, social responsibility, English, psychology, and marketing.

Dual campuses

We also offer the flexibility of two campuses: Lethbridge and Calgary. Our Calgary Campus meets the needs of working professionals with evening and weekend classes, while the Lethbridge campus is more traditional with an emphasis on daytime classes and a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities to explore. Both locations welcome international and mature students. We also have a means for students coming from other institutions to have previous courses considered for transfer credit, as well as a second-degree program.

Additional opportunities

Once you have chosen your major, consider the option of working toward a secondary area of focus. A minor will enhance your resumé and be recognized on your transcript. Several minors complement finance well, such as supply chain management, not-for-profit/social responsibility, international management, new media and Indigenous governance.
