Demand is increasing for new media artists that draw from an extensive computer science foundation. This five-year combined degree program bridges the gap between fine arts and computer science, providing a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Through new media studies, you'll explore the interconnectivity between technology, art, industry, and culture. Examine, study and create using a wide range of technologies and techniques in graphic, web and interaction design, 3D modelling, animation, video game design and development, screenwriting, cinema production and studies, and new media theory.

You'll combine your foundation in new media with studies in computer science, delving into the study of algorithms, data structures and their applications to develop efficient solutions to global problems.

In your final year of the BFA-New Media, you can choose either an industry internship or advanced studio. Each option provides particular benefits as you transition into a career or graduate studies.

The internship is a structured learning experience locally, nationally or abroad, where you refine your skills within a professional work setting and gain a greater sense of career possibilities.

The advanced studio course focuses on creative applications of new media where you'll undertake a self-directed project. If you are interested in research, graduate studies, or a scholastic challenge, you can also apply to take this course with the Honours Thesis designation. This will appear on your official transcript and degree parchment.

You have access to co-operative education, international exchanges, independent and applied studies, as well as volunteer opportunities. uLethbridge is the only university in Alberta to offer co-operative education to all majors in the university, at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

New media/management graduates are highly adaptable in a variety of work environments and emerging technologies.
