Course description

Are you fascinated by the ethical, health and well-being implications of the rapid advancement of technology in the modern era? This postgraduate degree sets the focus on the overarching theme of well-being/positive computing. This very topical field is rapidly growing in importance with the increasing demands on highly usable self-learning and self-care IT, which aligns with the notion of subjective wellbeing (SWB) driven design approaches.

This course offers a combination of HTI specific modules and other specialisms within the School of Informatics including algorithms, software engineering modelling, machine learning and data mining. The range of possible combinations lets you create and develop more versatile systems, enhancing your employability in the ICT sector.

Teaching and learning

Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, self-paced learning and practicals. Practical work will include hands-on work in designing, building and evaluating smart devices. Assessment is a mix of coursework - computer-based practicals, essays and small group projects and exams.

Careers and employability

This degree should prove useful in applying for jobs in the ICT industry as well as companies, charity organisations, NGOs and research institutes which are involved in the design and development of software-intensive systems/products/services.

HTI knowledge and skills, especially in usability and user experience (UX), are increasingly in demand within industry and research. The theoretical and practical work in designing, implementing and evaluating interactive technologies covered in this course will equip you with a broad spectrum of technical competences to meet diverse requirements of ICT jobs.

Students must have completed a three-year college diploma from a Chinese university, you will need to take an accepted one-year Pre-Masters course or upgrade your diploma to a Bachelor’s degree before applying for a Master’s degree. English Language Requirements: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
