If you're interested in teaching theatre, this major is for you. Our hands-on curriculum connects our award-winning Theatre Department with UIndy's highly regarded School of Education. You'll be given the opportunity to study all areas of theatre and apply your studies to the classroom experience in public and private schools in the Indianapolis area.

PROGRAM STRENGTHS

  • Theatre portion of the curriculum focuses on all areas of theatre including acting, directing, production, scenic design, costume design, lighting, dramatic literature and more
  • Education courses cover fundamental teaching concepts and methods that allow you to develop your personal identity as a theatre teacher
  • Ability to enter the classroom within your first year, gaining experience very early on in your education
  • A variety of school settings give you practice with applying various teaching methods in the classroom
  • Studio theatre classes are limited to 12 students for more individualized attention
  • Education courses teach you to confidently enter a classroom, from lesson-planning to articulating your own unique approach to pedagogy

SPECIAL TOPICS COURSES

In addition to courses in the regular curriculum, a number of Special Topics courses are offered on a rotating schedule and are based on student interest. Examples of Special Topics courses may include the following, or could be created from students' suggestions:

  • Acting for the Camera
  • Scene Painting
  • Millinery & Costume Crafts
  • Stage Combat
  • Stage Management
  • Auditioning

Academic transcript issued in English issued by the institution attended AND Examination results (Huikao or Xueye Shuiping Ceshi) verified by one of the following Ministry of Education-designated verification agencies: 1). China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC); 2). China Higher Education Student Information & Career Center (CHESICC). TOEFL - 61 IBT required, IELTS - 5.5 required, PTEA - 49 required.
