Understanding the interplay between the written word and the moving image is a key to understanding world we live in. Combining the study of Film and English will allow you to explore textuality in its different manifestations as you learn how to and analyse stories in both written and audiovisual form. Why study Film Studies and English Literature at Huddersfield? * You’ll be taught and supported by enthusiastic, internationally renowned professors, researchers and media practitioners. * You’ll be working in industry standard production facilities. * The course will develop your abilities to analyse, research and write persuasively about a rich variety of films, shows and filmmakers, from the latest superhero blockbusters through to quirky indie movies, world cinema, and amateur YouTube releases. * We are in the top 3 English departments in the UK for student satisfaction (NSS 2018). * Our team of English academic staff are ranked in the top 5 in the UK for the quality of their research publications (REF 2014). Studying film, we’ll look at a wide range of cinematic forms. From popular cinema through to challenging avant-garde works, you’ll be able to study a rich and varied selection of genres. We’ll also look at topics like national cinemas, and the work of individual filmmakers. You could look at adaptation, and how great works of literature are adapted to the big screen. Screenwriting, music and performance are all also part of the curriculum. As part of the wide mix of skills you’ll learn, we also give you a chance to try your hand at filmmaking. If you choose one of our documentary filmmaking modules you could get behind the camera and start exploring. With English literature, we’ll encourage you to develop a broad knowledge of the best writing from this nation and further afield.

A Levels in Chemistry and at least one further science subject from Biology, Maths or Physics. Chemistry A Level is essential. If you are not studying Biology, then Maths or Physics are accepted.
