Extend your knowledge in your specialist area at postgraduate level with our honours programme.

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) programme involves one year of full-time study, or two years of part-time study, after you have completed the requirements for the Bachelor of Science.

After graduating with a BSc (Hons), it’s possible to progress to a Master of Science (MSc) degree. If you achieve First or Second Class First Division Honours in your BSc(Hons), you’ll be eligible for direct entry to a PhD.

Some specialisations may not be available for a Semester Two start.

Geography:

Geography is the study of the natural processes and systems of the environment and the impact and consequences of human activity as it affects and is affected by the physical environment.

You’ll enjoy Geography if you are interested in the world around you, from the relevance of Earth surface processes, to seeking solutions to environmental problems and the relationship among personal and global geographies of uneven development, and economic and socio-cultural change.

Geography is an exciting and relevant subject that focuses on the development of practical skills in problem identification, research methodologies, ethics and analytical practices; alongside the exploration of social geographies of the city, and demographic and social changes in urban historical geographies.

You can study Geography as an undergraduate major or postgraduate specialisation in either the Faculty of Science or Faculty of Arts programmes.

Admission to the programme normally requires a completed bachelor degree from New Zealand, or an acceptable equivalent qualification from a recognised university (or similar) overseas in a related subject area, with the required GPE. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 and no bands below 6.0; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 and written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 575 and an Essay (TWE) of 4.5; C1 Advanced (CAE) or C2 Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE Communicative score below 50; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP): Grade of B-; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85.
