The Bachelor of Science (Honours) programme involves one year of full-time study, or two years of part-time study, after you have completed the requirements for the Bachelor of Science.

After graduating with a BSc (Hons), it’s possible to progress to a Master of Science (MSc) degree. If you achieve First or Second Class First Division Honours in your BSc(Hons), you’ll be eligible for direct entry to a PhD.

Some specialisations may not be available for a Semester Two start.

Medical Physics and Imaging Technology:

Medical Physics and Imaging Technology is the application of physics theories, technologies and methods in the field of biomedical imaging, modelling, diagnostics and disease treatments.

The study of Medical Physics and Imaging Technology provides a very complex toolkit to support your ability to work in the biomedical industries, engage in the medical physics training or pursue a research career in biomedical optics.

You will study Medical Science courses that examine the ways in which host immune mechanisms control infection, advanced biomedical imaging studies of concepts related to the biology of cancer, and Physics courses that explore filtering and digital signal processing and advanced electromagnetism.

Where can Medical Physics and Imaging Technology take you?

There is a real need in the biomedical industries for graduates who are proficient in the complementary areas of physics, biology and physiology, and skilled in the design and application of Imaging Technologies.

Admission to the programme normally requires a completed bachelor degree from New Zealand, or an acceptable equivalent qualification from a recognised university (or similar) overseas in a related subject area, with the required GPE. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 and no bands below 6.0; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 and written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 575 and an Essay (TWE) of 4.5; C1 Advanced (CAE) or C2 Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE Communicative score below 50; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP): Grade of B-; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85.
