A programme for high-achieving nursing graduates who wish to enhance their career prospects or pursue nursing research.

Programme overview

This programme has been designed to enhance your skills and learning’s gained from completing a Bachelor of Nursing.

It is an ideal programme for a qualified nurse to build their research capacity, upgrade their qualification, maintain currency in their clinical practice or expand their career path opportunities.

In most cases you will work in partnership with a clinical academic supervisor to complete a project designed with your current employer.

Programme structure

One year full-time or up to two years part-time.

120 points

A research methods course/s (from a list of Nursing or Population Health courses) or courses approved by the Head of School of Nursing (30 points)

A core course in Clinical Practice Development (30 points)

Dissertation (60 points)

Where could this programme take you?

The BNurs(Hons) programme will provide you with knowledge and skills to practise nursing and develop scholarship and leadership in nursing. The programme aims to develop critical and reflective practitioners who are able to pursue professional practice and further research.

Admission to the programme normally requires a completed bachelor degree from New Zealand, or an acceptable equivalent qualification from a recognised university (or similar) overseas in a related subject area, with the required GPE. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 and no bands below 6.0; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 and written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 575 and an Essay (TWE) of 4.5; C1 Advanced (CAE) or C2 Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE Communicative score below 50; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP): Grade of B-; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85.
