Biochemistry has grown as techniques for its study become more sophisticated, with application in genetic engineering and molecular bioengineering as well as in the physiological and medical area.

It provides students with the aptitude to investigate a diverse range of problems in animals, plants and micro-organisms, encompassing each level of the biological organization. The study of scientific theory is supplemented with practical sessions (experiments and laboratory projects) in order to better understand the chemistry of living things.

The programme aims to allow students to understand, analyze, practice and evaluate the knowledge and laboratory skills of a range of biochemistry topics. It provides strong training in practical methods, data analysis and problem solving related to biochemistry.

UTAR welcomes applicants with any of the following qualifications for entry to Bachelor's Honours Degree Programme: Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM); Unified Examination Certificate (UEC); A-Levels; South Australian Matriculation (SAM); Canadian Pre-University (CPU). Entry with Other Qualifications: Applicants with qualifications other than those described above, for example, a Diploma from a college/institution/polytechnic may also apply for admission to UTAR programmes. English Language Requirements: International English Language Testing System ( IELTS ): 5.0; Internet-based Testing (IBT) TOEFL: 42; Cambridge English: 154; Pearson Test of English (PTE): 47; Malaysia University English Test (MUET): Band 3.
