If you have the vision, determination, and passion to enter a profession such as medicine, dentistry or law, start here. In Canada, many professional programs require university coursework before you may apply to the professional program. The University of Winnipeg's smaller class sizes, research opportunities, and strong reputation for academic excellence will give you the advantages you need when applying to your professional program of choice. If you change your mind or cannot gain acceptance to your professional program, all of your UWinnipeg courses can be applied towards a bachelor's degree. International students should note that entry to professional programs in Canada is extremely competitive, and not all professional programs are open to international students. We encourage students to do their research and to have a strong backup plan.

Occupational therapists help mentally, physically, or emotionally disadvantaged individuals to develop, recover, or maintain daily living and working skills. Employment opportunities exist in hospitals, private practice, schools, and industry.

You will graduate from The University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree. The degree you earn will depend on your course selection and interests; while there are required and recommended courses, there is no one degree or program that is required for entry to OT. This provides an excellent backup plan should you not proceed to professional school.

After you complete your pre-professional studies at The University of Winnipeg, you will apply for admission to occupational therapy at another university. Enrolment in OT programs is limited, and only highly qualified applicants are chosen. At least two more years of study are required to complete a master’s degree in occupational therapy.

Applicants will need to meet the admission requirements listed for the country where they completed the final year of high school. Requirements are listed by country on our website. If stated for the country, the applicant will also need submit an additional English test. Secondary School Credential: Senior High School Graduation Examination along with applicant’s ID Number and Report Number for verification with China Credentials Verification (CHESICC). Secondary School Grade: 70%. Post-Secondary Document Requirements: Transfer and Second Degree applicants are required to submit their transcript and graduation certificates, along with applicant’s ID Number and Report Number for verification with China Credentials Verification (CHESICC). University or College Transfer Grade: 70 – 79% or C. TOEFL: Minimum score of 86 with no less than 20 in each component, IELTS: Minimum band score of 6.5 on the academic module.
