UBC's department of Microbiology and Immunology is a leading centre for immunology, recombinant DNA technology, and for research into infectious diseases and applied and environmental microbiology. You'll build foundational knowledge in biology and learn about cells, molecules, and mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity, and more.

Microbiology is the study of minute, simple life forms (microbes), including bacteria, algae, fungi, protozoa, and viruses. Immunology is the branch of science that deals with how the body defends itself against disease-causing microbes. Microbiology and immunology together involve studying how microbes can be controlled to prevent disease.

Microbiology and Immunology is available as a major or an honours degree.

Applicants must have Gaokao examinations results provided by CQV If you are not writing the Gaokao, you must submit one of the following standardized examination results: SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement exam results, A Levels, or International Baccalaureate Certificates. Equivalent Entry: Huikao or Academic proficiency test results provided by China Qualifications Verification (CQV). Other English language requirements: CAE(Certificate in Advanced English ): Minimum score  of B; CAEL(Canadian Academic English Language assessment): Overall score  of 70; TOEFL Paper-based test with the TWE (Test of Written English): ): Minimum score  of 55 each for Reading, Listening, and Writing (4.0 on TWE); MELAB(Michigan English Language Assessment Battery with the MELAB Oral Interview): 85 final score with 3 in the speaking test; PTE(Pearson Test of English (Academic)): Overall score: 65, Reading: 60, Listening: 60, Writing: 60, Speaking: 60.
