Overview

This is a five-year full-time credit-based honours programme leading to the award of a Bachelor of Nursing degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Programme Description

The programme prepares students for registration as general registered nurses with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong. Graduates of the programme are qualified to promote the health of and provide quality care to patients in today’s increasingly technological and complex healthcare arena. The main subjects of study are biological and behavioural sciences, health promotion and maintenance, nursing practice and theory, nursing research, and information technology. Students also gain experience in the care of clients in both community and hospital settings.

The programme is well designed and integrated across five study years to prepare students to become professional nursing practitioners with a strong foundation in theory and knowledge. Beginning with knowledge- and skill-based training, the programme covers all aspects of nursing, from basic nursing to nursing care for individuals with complex health problems.

Career Prospects

The Nethersole School of Nursing, CUHK has nurtured over 5,000 graduates in the past quarter century. Graduates of our undergraduate nursing programme are qualified to work as Registered Nurses (General) in community and hospital settings, for example but not limited to surgical nursing, medical nursing, pediatric nursing, oncology nursing, orthopaedic nursing, emergency nursing, and primary health care. Graduates may pursue specialty training such as midwifery nursing. Those with good results may also pursue postgraduate studies, leading to career promotion as nurse specialists, nurse consultants, clinical managers, administrators or educators. Over the years, our graduates have enjoyed good prospects and demonstrated excellence in the advancement of their nursing career. Many of them are now outstanding leaders in their respective areas, making important contributions to the nursing and healthcare development in Hong Kong.

In celebrating the School’s Silver Jubilee, the ‘CUHK Nethersole School of Nursing 25th Anniversary Outstanding Alumni Awards’ were presented to recognize our alumni’s outstanding achievements in health or social care or other particular fields as well as their notable contributions to the society.
