The concentration in CSTE is designed to meet the diverse needs of educational practitioners, curriculum development specialists, assessment and evaluation specialists, and those looking to start along the pathway toward educational research and a PhD degree. Our students who graduate with master's degrees in a CSTE concentration will go on to work as:

In CSTE, we strive to create relationships with our students, and between our students and their communities. The capstone courses, and the trademark outcomes for our degree, include a community outreach experience where students work with a school or other educational partner to understand the community needs, and then develop an action plan to try and address those needs. Our students are given on-the-ground experience with:

Working with community partners
Inquiry and research into real world educational problems
On-the-ground experience in developing and deploying a plan to address those educational problems

We believe that our program will offer experiences to our students that are unique, and that will better prepare the student to create positive impact in their schools and communities. The trademark outcomes for CSTE graduates are:

Develop experience in community needs-based inquiry.
Engage in community needs-based intervention.

The student learning outcomes, addressed in all of the courses, are designed to support those trademark outcomes. Every course seeks, in some way, to support the program's 3 student learning outcomes (SLOs):

SLO 1: Master's degree students in CSTE will be responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.
SLO 2: Master's degree students in CSTE will think systematically about their practice and engage in community needs-based inquiry.
SLO 3: Master's degree students in CSTE will engage in community needs-based intervention.
