This program is designed to prepare teachers to be instructors in dual enrollment classes in high school. It requires 18 graduate hours in a specific content (ex. Math, English) which will also quality students to teach in community colleges and other areas of high education upon completion of the degree. All education courses and most of the support field classes are online.

The faculty in the Department of Teacher and Bilingual Education is united in our vision that we will become the program of choice for individuals wishing to pursue a career in education in South Texas. To this end, our mission is to serve the educational needs of South Texas, the state and nation by preparing qualified professionals to assume positions of responsibility and leadership in an increasingly complex, dynamic and global society.

Through this mission, our goal is to establish and facilitate life-long professional development for both pre-service and professional educators through quality undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department of Teacher and Bilingual Education prepares education professionals for classroom and leadership roles in schools with diverse populations in the changing cultural, linguistic, and educational environments of South Texas and beyond.

Our goal will be accomplished through a process of collaboration and commitment. Our strategies will utilize technology, research-based teaching methods, developmentally appropriate field-based experiences and outcome-based performance assessments. This process is aimed at maximizing learning for children, pre-service teachers, professional educators, and university partners.

Students who have earned a baccalaureate degree from a recognized college or university. Have an undergraduate cumulative grade point average between 2.3-2.59. Have an undergraduate cumulative grade point average between 2.6 and above or an undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 or higher for the last 60 semester credits (or 90 quarter credits). Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 79 (Internet-based) or 550(Paper-based), IELTS - The minimum score required is a 6.0 overall band score.
