The Bachelor of Arts in Speech, Language & Hearing Science may be conferred upon a student by recommendation of the faculty upon the satisfactory completion of 122 semester hours of credit.

A Foundation to Build From

The Bachelor of Arts in Speech, Language & Hearing Science (SLH) prepares students for graduate programs in speech-language pathology and audiology or in related areas such as education (e.g., special education, foreign language education) and other health professions.

Coursework topics include: Anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanism; Neuroanatomy and neurophysiology; Psychology of language and language development; Acoustics and perception of speech; Introduction to clinical populations and practice.

Graduates with a major in Speech, Language & Hearing Science will satisfy Standard IVB (Basic Communication Processes) of the Knowledge and Skills Assessment required by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders also offers two certificates, one in American Sign Language and one in Linguistics. Students majoring in Speech, Language & Hearing Science can pursue one or both of the certificates in addition to the major. The certificates are also open to students in majors other than SLH.
