The Master of Aviation (Human Factors) program is designed to enhance students’ skills and abilities to design and implement human factors programs within the aviation industry. It also provides insight into management of the air transportation industry. Students gain an understanding of the multiple facets of human factors training and its application.

The Master of Aviation (Human Factors) forms the final stage in a three-stage nested suite of programs consisting of:

• Graduate Certificate of Aviation (Human Factors) (GC-AVHF)
• Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Human Factors) (GD-AVHF)
• Master of Aviation (Human Factors) (MA-AVHF)

The Master of Aviation (Human Factors) qualifies graduates to undertake leadership developmental roles in aviation human factors. The course provides students with the advanced knowledge necessary to design, implement and manage human factors programs within the aviation industry and how to develop innovative effective management of contemporary and emerging aviation human factors issues and challenges.

The course, primarily, will meet the needs of personnel currently involved in the aviation industry who wish to upgrade their skills at tertiary level in the advanced area of human factors. In addition, the course has application for personnel in other technologically based industries including rail, shipping, medical, heavy industry, the chemical industry and energy production.

Aims and objectives

On completion of the Master of Aviation (Human Factors) graduates will be able to:

1. demonstrate high-level advanced knowledge in professional aviation human factors practice

2. identify and describe the complexity of human performance issues in the aviation industry

3. design, implement and manage human factors training programs and take leadership, and mentoring roles within operational safety teams

4. describe contemporary and emerging aviation human factors issues and challenges and to develop innovative strategies for implementation

5. critically reflect on professional aviation human factors practice

6. plan and deliver an integrated capstone research experience (project) using technical knowledge and research skills

7. apply clear and coherent communication skills to justify propositions and professional decisions

8. demonstrate responsibility and accountability for all personal work outputs.

Courses that are taught entirely online are only available to international students studying outside Australia or those in Australia who are not on a student visa. Online courses are not available to international students in Australia who hold a student visa.
