Successfully completing our MA Education will enhance your employability skills and ability to move within the education sector. The award will strengthen your understanding of educational issues and the knowledge required for a number of professional roles.

The MA Education aims to meet the growing need for advanced academic and subject-specific training in a broad educational context. The option of specific pathways enables you to select areas of interest to support your future employment goals. The 20 month January start option is possible for entrants who already have obtained 60 level 7 credits in the past 5 years.

The course focuses on developing your practice in relation to the needs of your professional setting. All modules have been designed to support your teaching and associated educational leadership practice in a wide range of workplace environments. This might be in a school, college, local authority, public service or community setting.

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: MA Education

Work placements

Although not compulsory, you’re encouraged to secure a placement in a relevant educational setting for approximately one day per week. This could be an early years setting, a primary or secondary school, a college or university, or another educational environment.

The placement could be linked to a potential employment opportunity in a sector that you wish to gain new experiences in. However, it can be purely voluntary. Completing a placement will enhance your professional development and help provide context to your studies. The MA Education does not lead to Qualified Teacher Status.

We have a good range of contacts across the education sector. Tutors will support you in finding suitable placement opportunities.

Assessment

All modules are assessed through a variety of formats, including: assignments, case studies, annotated bibliographies, contributions to online discussion forums and the dissertation.

All modules are assessed summatively by means of individual assessments. For students working in early years settings, optional modules can be taken which have a relevant focus.

Careers

This award is focused on professional development and is therefore suitable if you’re planning to work in various educational settings, such as galleries, museums, visitor centres and offender settings.

Once you’ve achieved your Master’s degree, you’ll have the opportunity to progress to our PhD and EdD awards – Doctoral-level programmes aimed at helping you develop your capabilities even further.
