The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Zoology requires students to choose one of the following specializations: Animal Biology; Environmental Biology; Fisheries Biology and Aquatic Conservation; Pre-Veterinary Science; Wildlife Biology and Conservation.

We also offer a course in Marine Biology which includes a 5-day field trip to the Gulf of Mexico over Spring Break.

Pre-Veterinary Science

As a Pre-Veterinary student at SIU, you will begin an exciting career path towards a career in veterinary medicine, where you can put your knowledge and compassion into practice. Preventing disease and healing animals is at the heart of what veterinarians do. But as professionals, they also do much more. SIU can provide that solid foundation for pre-veterinary students seeking to reach their full academic and professional development potential. The Pre-Veterinary Science track is for students wishing to attend veterinary school in pursuit of a D.V.M, or those with general interests in animal health. The Pre-Veterinary course requirements are rigorous science- based programs that emphasize the biological and physical sciences.

Students must have completed a high school or equivalent. Academic Requirements (grade point averages are on a 4.0 scale and are calculated by SIU): 26 credits or more at another college/university - submit college/university transcripts showing a GPA of 2.0 or greater on all coursework; 0-25 credits at another college/university - submit high school AND university/college transcripts showing 2.0 GPA on all coursework; 5 Passes on the GCE O or A level exams (under the Cambridge/ed excel model). English Language Requirement: TOEFL - 68 on the internet-based test; TOEFL - 520 on the paper-based test; ITEP - 4.0 (academic plus only); IELTS - 6.0.
