Overview

Solent University's International Foundation Programme in STEM aims to support students who have completed their High School education abroad transition into level 4 study in the UK. Emphasis is placed upon building your confidence and independence so you are able to learn effectively within the UK's academic culture.

The STEM pathway has been designed to contain real-life scenarios and practical applications. The aim is to equip you with the knowledge and confidence when problem solving in scientific and engineering contexts by applying the correct scientific and mathematical theory. Drawing on examples from construction, mechanical and electrical engineering, you will get a real understanding on the relevance of mathematical principles. The STEM pathway will also teach you the fundamentals of scientific and mathematical reasoning and develop their use of statistics to test hypothesis and validity of scientific data.

WHAT WILL I STUDY

The STEM pathway will teach you the fundamentals of scientific and mathematical reasoning, developing your use of statistics to test hypothesis and validity of scientific data. Assessments are based on demonstrating the application of the theory in projects and portfolios that are typical at undergraduate level, leaving you well-placed for successful undergraduate studies in a range of fields including Sustainability, Biomedical Science and Design and Manufacture.

WHAT DOES THIS COURSE LEAD TO

Subject to passing your International Foundation Programme – STEM Pathway with a minimum mark of 40% in all units, you will be able to progress on to the following programmes:

WHAT YOU'LL STUDY

If you are studying the 2 Term programme, you will study Terms One and Two. If you are studying the 3 Term programme, you will study all Terms detailed below.

TERM ZERO

All units are 0 credits.

• Language in Context (0 credits)

TERMS ONE & TWO

All units are 20 credits, unless otherwise stated.
