Physical Geography is an earth systems science that weaves together studies of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere to investigate our environment and the powerful forces and events that influence our lives, including the many ways we are altering the earth’s environmental systems.

The Department of Geography offers three concentrations in its science degree: Biogeophysical Science; Geoscience; and Physical Geography and Spatial Information Science.

The program can be completed through one of three streams: biogeophysical science; geoscience; and physical geography and spatial information science.

(1) The biogeophysical science offers students a broad range of environmental science courses in physical geography, with emphasis on geomorphology, climatology, hydrology, soils, and biogeography.

(2) The geoscience stream is similarly broad-ranging but targets the academic requirements needed to apply for registration as a professional geoscientist (environmental geoscience) in British Columbia.

(3) The physical geography and spatial information science stream focuses on the linkages between physical geography and spatial information science. Students completing this stream may also apply to receive a Certificate in Spatial Information Systems.

Applicants need a minimum of 70% in Senior Year 2 or Senior Year 3 Mathematics for admission (based on a 60% pass scale); Submit transcript which includes grades for all courses completed and final grades for the first semester of Senior Year 3. Admission is calculated on Senior Year 3 academic subjects. Other English Language Requirements accepted: A minimum TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based).
