Saint Louis University's accelerated Spanish B.A. / M.A. program offers qualified Spanish majors the opportunity of beginning work toward the Master of Arts in Spanish while completing requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, thereby reducing the time needed to earn the master's degree.

Students may apply up to 15 graduate credits to both the B.A. and M.A. degrees. For the B.A., those credits will all satisfy major electives.

Spanish, B.A. Learning Outcomes

Graduates will be able to articulate complex ideas and have meaningful interactions in Spanish, both orally and in writing.

Graduates will be able to interpret texts and artifacts produced in Spanish.

Graduates will be able to demonstrate an awareness of the diversity of the Spanish language, cultures, and Hispanic populations.

Graduates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of Spanish as a major world language with a relevant cultural legacy.

Graduates will be able to engage with Spanish-speaking cultures. They will be able to explain similarities and differences between cultures.

Spanish, M.A. Learning Outcomes

Graduates will be able to write, in Spanish, evidencing research, analysis, argumentation and organization in both academic and non-academic works.

Graduates will be able to speak convincingly, in Spanish, about their coursework and research, through presentations both inside and outside of the classroom.

Graduates will be able to dialogue with key works and recent scholarship in Hispanic Literatures, Cultures & Linguistics.

Graduates will be able to teach language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world, using current methods in Foreign Language Pedagogy, with a deep understanding of their historical development as well as current relevance.

Successful applicants should possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. English Language Proficiency Requirements: Paper-based TOEFL (PBT) 550; Computer-based TOEFL (IBT) 80; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 6.5; Pearson Test of English (PTE) 54.
