How do we prevent outbreaks of infectious diseases? What are the best practices for managing assisted-living environments for elderly populations? How do we tackle childhood obesity?

The public health program will allow you to pursue studies and research in personal and environmental health, the delivery of health services, wellness lifestyles, current health care systems, epidemiology, health administration, health education, and occupational health. Whether your interest is in management, public planning, health care, or disease prevention, you will be prepared to enter positions in business, government, education, nonprofit, and health organizations. A rich blend of courses, internships, and research opportunities, combined with an accessible, student-oriented faculty, will enable you to relate your analysis of health problems to actual practice in professional management, planning, and health careers.

The Public Health program is offered through the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy and leads to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. It provides students with a foundation in areas such as wellness and health promotion, disease and injury prevention, occupational and environmental health, health care delivery services and administration, epidemiology and population research and health threat preparedness and safety.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, public health professionals work in a wide range of services including infectious disease control, health problems of the children, older adults and the medically under-served, chronic disease management, health monitoring and surveillance, environmental/occupational safety, and emergency preparedness. The Public Health program prepares students for a wide variety of management and planning career paths in health care and disease prevention. These positions can be found in business, government, education, nonprofit, and health organizations. Continued study at the graduate level is also an option.
