In this double degree students complete the requirements for two separate degrees in four and a half years. The course consists of units in business and education.

In the Bachelor of Education component students are prepared as teachers with specialist understandings for secondary school learners in two subject discipline areas, with one related to your business major, for example, accounting, economics, or business. For the other teaching area you can choose one of:

English
geography
history or
mathematics.

In the Bachelor of Education component you will learn to innovate and incorporate digital technologies in your teaching. You will be equipped with entrepreneurial thinking and leadership skills and develop the resilience and creative capabilities to adapt to ongoing workforce changes and future opportunities.

The Bachelor of Business is designed to produce graduates with the knowledge, skills and experiences for success in a broad range of contexts in general and specific fields of business. The course provides students with a strong theoretical and practical underpinning in the key disciplines, functions, principles and practices of business across national and international business environments with depth and specialisation in a discipline. The curriculum is responsive to industry needs, providing students with contemporary knowledge and skills that are highly relevant to industry.

Real-world learning

The program includes substantial Professional Experience connected to on-campus learning. QUT organises Professional Experience placements to give you the opportunity to work in real school classrooms, supervised by practising professional educators.

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is part of all majors in the business degree giving you the opportunity to gain work experience while you study. Many of our business teaching staff are industry professionals. They provide the opportunity for engagement with real world case studies, site visits, guest lectures and access to the latest industry thinking.

This program will prepare you to work as a teacher in secondary schools and other education environments. You will develop transferable skills to help you succeed in the modern business environment, think creatively and critically, communicate professionally, make ethical business decisions and work in a global context.

Career outcomes

Graduates of education will have a solid foundation of knowledge to teach in secondary schools. Your career will be guided by, but not limited to, your chosen teaching areas. Your qualification can also allow you to work in other locations in Australia and overseas.
