Early childhood education (ECE) focuses on the educational, social, and developmental needs of young children. Graduates are certified to teach pre-kindergarten through third grade.

OSU students learn a developmental approach to educating students from birth through third grade. Students participate in the on-campus child development lab, three field experiences, and a required student teaching semester.

Career paths

Early childhood educators can focus in public schools, private schools, or community organizations such as: Pre-K and Pre-school; Kindergarten; 1st-3rd grades; Head Start; Children's Museums; Parents as Teachers.

OSU's child development lab is nationally and state accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Experiential learning

OSU students learn real-world educational techniques in an inclusive classroom setting in our on-site model teaching classroom and child development lab. Multiple field experiences with young children in urban, suburban, and rural settings combine theory and learning with daily teaching practice.

Accelerated program

OSU offers an accelerated master’s program which allows students to earn both ECE bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five years.
