Health education and promotion prepares students to address lifestyle and health issues in a variety of settings, including work sites, health care facilities, community agencies, schools/universities and government agencies.

The program takes a holistic approach, exposing students to all areas of wellness. Students get hands-on experience through a required internship within their desired health profession. Recent internship sites include, Georgetown Hospital (Washington, D.C.), Tulsa Health Department (Tulsa, OK), Love's Travel Stops and Country Stores, Inc. (Oklahoma City, OK), Michael Johnson Performance (McKinney, Texas) and Ubuntu Youth Center (South Africa).

Career paths

Degree completion will qualify students for a variety of careers in diverse settings. Graduates provide preventative health services in community, corporate, school or clinical settings: Physical Therapist; Occupational Therapist; Public Health Professional; Athletic Trainer; Chiropractor; Doctor; Health Education Specialist; Health Worker; Employee Wellness Coordinator; Fitness Instructor.

Research opportunities

Students have the opportunity to participate in faculty-led research within areas including disease prevention, behavioral interventions, fitness performance, sexual health, substance use/abuse, overall wellness and public health.

Students must have completed a high School GPA 3.0+ (based on a 4.0 scale). International students qualify for assured admission if they meet the following criteria: English-language proficiency exams - iBT TOEFL Score: 61+ OR IELTS Academic Score 5.5+.
