The Middle Childhood Education program includes six majors with academic specializations in any two of the following content specializations: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Successful completion of the program and passing scores on the Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE) exams and a Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) will qualify you for an Ohio four-year Resident Educator teaching license. This major will prepare you to teach Language Arts and Social Studies in grades 4-9 in Ohio.

Regional campus provides access to a wide variety of educational opportunities, including the options of completing a degree on the regional campus or beginning study on the regional campus and transferring to the Athens campus for additional coursework.

Middle Childhood Education Requirements

Your program is designed to meet requirements in three areas: General Education, Teacher Candidacy, and Content for the Teaching Fields.

One or more of your requirements in content for the teaching fields will also qualify to meet a General Education Tier II requirement. You may partially satisfy both requirements with a single course. You are always welcome to meet with an academic advisor for assistance in selecting General Education Tier II courses that also meet requirements in content in the teaching fields.

Middle Childhood Teaching Field: Language Arts

Complete the following courses with a 2.75 GPA and a grade of C (2.0) or higher:

EDMC 3100 - Teaching Middle Childhood Language Arts
EDMC 3100L - Teaching Middle Childhood Language Arts - Lab
EDMC 3210 - Children's Literature for Middle Childhood
