In the Drawing & Painting program, you’ll learn to become a creative and engaged artist. You can concentrate on your painting studio skills and study art theory, history and contemporary social issues. You’ll learn to speak and write about your artwork in various formats. A wide variety of options for courses are available that focus in digital, landscape, figurative and abstract painting.

Your instructors will also encourage you to explore new forms of digital artmaking, installations, and experimental approaches to painting. Our instructors are professional artists who share their career advice and provide one-on-one, in-depth, feedback on your progress. You’ll have many opportunities to present your work professionally in public exhibitions.

Drawing & Painting admits first-year students directly into the program. Applicants selecting this major will have their portfolios reviewed by Drawing & Painting faculty for the limited number of spaces available for direct entry. Applicants not accepted for direct entry will be considered for the general, first-year program.

Successful completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Grade 12 U English (ENG4U or EAE4U) with a minimum final grade of 70%. A total of at least six Grade 12 U or M level courses (including ENG4U or EAE4U) with a minimum overall academic average of 70%. English Language Requirements: IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Minimum 6.5 overall with no part below 6.0 (academic version); PTE Academic (Pearson Test): Minimum 58 overall with at least 56 in Listening, at least 56 in Reading, at least 56 in Speaking and at least 56 in Writing; TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Applicants taking the TOEFL test for the first time must provide an Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT) with a minimum total score of 84 with at least 20 in Reading, at least 19 in Listening, at least 22 in Speaking and at least 20 in Writing; CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment): Minimum 70 overall with no band below 60.
