The Bachelor of Business and Associate Degree of Business have been developed through research and in consultation with industry specialists and academic experts from Australian businesses and universities. The degrees are designed to provide students with the relevant discipline knowledge, foundational skills, career management skills, communication skills and technical skills needed to access a wide range of jobs, carve new career pathways or work effectively as independent entrepreneurs.

Students in the Bachelor degree can focus their studies on one of three specialization streams, Management, Marketing or Entrepreneurship, by selecting a recommended suite of electives in years 2 and 3.

In the first year of the Degree, students will gain foundation knowledge and skills that focus their attention on the basics of business and on their personal and professional development. In the second year, students will extend their study of business basics and begin to personalize their course by specializing in one of the three streams. In the third year, students will develop a deeper understanding of advanced business concepts in their core subjects and apply their cumulative knowledge in two capstone subjects.

Assessment Methods

The method of assessment may include a combination of examinations, assignments, tests (written and practical), group and individual reports and projects, essays, practical tasks, literature reviews, journals, presentations, interviews, case studies, self-reflections and class participation.

Units of Study

Credit points are a basic measure of student workload. All subjects are given a credit point value. Most subjects at Melbourne Polytechnic are 12 credit points. A normal full-time annual workload is 96 credit points. The academic year is divided into two main semesters; full-time students usually enroll in 48 credit points each semester, part time students usually enroll in 24 credit points each semester or less.

Successful completion of this course might enable you to enroll in Masters in Management or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at university, or our own HEBSMPPA Master of Professional and Practicing Accounting (MPPA)
