Overview

It's during secondary school that young people acquire the skills that improve their opportunities for good jobs or further education. High-quality teachers are often important role models guiding students through what can be an exciting but also challenging time in their lives.

In this course, you'll complete a qualifying major, usually in the field of your first teaching subject. Subjects include business studies, economics, English, geography, history, languages and maths.

Our program is University wide, meaning you learn teaching subjects from experts in each key learning area. For example you'll learn English from our world-class English teachers and researchers.

You'll be taught by academics who are also researching the latest approaches to teaching. Macquarie is a leader in educational research particularly in the areas of information and communication technology, and maths and science teaching.

You'll participate in a comprehensive professional experience program.

You don't need to achieve an HSC Band 5 result in 3 subjects (including English) to enter this course, you only need to meet the ATAR requirements to be considered.

ACCREDITATION

Graduates are eligible for accreditation to teach in government and non-government schools. This degree is recognised nationally and internationally by education providers. Accreditation had been applied for to meet anticipated new government policy requirements around entry to teacher education programs.

SUITABLE FOR

Those interested in becoming a secondary school teacher. This degree may also provide a foundation for other careers in associated fields such as educational adviser to government or other agencies, educational policy planner, educational researcher, training agency consultant, educator and trainer of adults.

Applicants must have: Gao Kao (Hainan)- 540, 567, 585, 621, 684; Gao Kao (Jiangsu) - 270, 300, 312, 331, 365; Gao Kao (Shanghai) - 380, 397, 428, 460, 491; Gao Kao (Other provinces) - 420, 473, 510, 548, 585. To apply for an undergraduate program, international students will need to have completed one or more of the following academic qualifications: A recognized senior secondary school qualification or university entrance examination, such as the New South Wales Higher School Certificate (NSW HSC) or other equivalent Australian or overseas high school qualification; A recognized university Foundation course; A recognized 2 or 3-year Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree; At least one year of a university degree from a recognized institution. IELTS of 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each band, or equivalent.
