OVERVIEW

This professionally accredited course will equip you with a well-developed understanding of contemporary accounting issues, techniques and practices. You will explore the theoretical principles of accounting theory and the issues and challenges faced by companies when applying them in modern day business.

Your course has six core modules and you will select one option module in semester two. You could choose to study forensic accounting, investment fund management or financial decision analysis alongside your core modules.

The course is open to anyone interested in professional accounting who would like to gain professional accounting exam exemptions and/or a masters qualification. You will have some experience of accounting and finance, either at an undergraduate level or through work experience of accounting, business or management. On completion of this course, you will be able to apply for the following exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA): Accountant in Business, Management Accounting, Financial Accounting and Corporate and Business Law. You will also be eligible to apply for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Gateway examination.

It is designed with both a theoretical and practical focus and therefore will equip you with both the intellectual and professional transferable skills that employers are looking for.

TEACHING & LEARNING

Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.
