Our online MA programme provides you with a critical, in depth and nuanced understanding of international relations and contemporary war. It combines theory and practice, providing in depth and advanced engagement with theories of international relations combined with investigation and analysis of contemporary conflicts. It will equip you with the tools to tackle some of the most pressing global challenges.

You will be taught by world-leading experts in International Relations and Security Studies, who will help you to develop the skills to undertake an extended research project on a topic of your choice.

Description

Studying international relations and contemporary war has never been more crucial. The world is in the midst of dealing with perhaps its greatest challenge this century with a global pandemic underway. But there are also a range of other old and new challenges that have enormous repercussions for our lives, politics, economics, and societies. Processes of globalisation, including the movement of monies and peoples, the impact of new technologies, the rise of identity politics, the rise of transnational or nonstate actors and transformations in the character of contemporary war all pose direct challenges to the state, the international system and global politics.

Our MA programme will equip you with the knowledge, skills and tools to tackle the challenges facing the world today and into the future. You will develop advanced and in-depth understanding of contemporary international politics and security and the knowledge and skills you need to become a leader in the field.

The International Relations and Contemporary War MA is delivered 100% online by a world-renowned and multidisciplinary department devoted to the study of war and security in all its dimensions. Our students benefit from cutting-edge research-led teaching in a broad range of subjects, such as the evolution of war, strategy and security, theories and contemporary problems of international relations, international law, war, ethics and justice, intelligence, insurgency and counter-insurgency, and regional specialisms covering Africa, Asia, Russia, the Middle East and elsewhere.
