Business students may pursue a concentration in marketing, management or general management studies, or choose to major in international business.

Marketing Concentration - focuses on understanding how customer perceptions and preferences evolve and how the firm can influence them.

Management Concentration - emphasizes forecasting, planning and control, allocating resources, the appraisal of competition, and implementation strategies.

General Management Studies Concentration - prepares students with skills, analytical tools, and concepts to prepare them for a career in a wide variety of business enterprises.

Why Business at Illinois Wesleyan?

• The philosophy of Illinois Wesleyan’s business administration major is that preparation for a career in business requires study of a broad spectrum of topics, rather than narrow specialization in a single area.

• Students take a sequence of courses that cover all of the business fields: accounting, finance, management, marketing, business law, and strategy and policy.

• This firm foundation in theory and its practice enables students to adapt to a changing workplace in the years following graduation.

• The business administration major offers the option of three areas of concentration: management, marketing and general management studies. Each specialization requires the completion of five core courses and four electives in the discipline.

• Because the business administration major is so flexible, many students choose a second major or a minor to complement it, or to study abroad for a semester.

• The department offers several minors, including Arts Management (particularly suitable for fine arts majors) and Human Services (well-suited for nursing majors and others interested in health professions).

After Graduation

Many Illinois Wesleyan alumni are employed by major firms that recruit yearly on our campus, including State Farm, Price Waterhouse Coopers, SBC, Travelers Insurance, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Mizuno and Caterpillar. Graduates of our business administration program have assumed a number of important positions in the business world, such as president of State Farm Insurance Companies, division systems analyst with the NCR Corporation, and partner at Price Waterhouse Coopers.
