The ways in which health care is offered and paid for is changing as never before, and with the advent of the Affordable Care Act, there is a growing need for Nurse Practitioners (NP). For nurses who want to provide culturally-appropriate primary care services for families, the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program is for you. If your experience is in acute care and you want to utilize your expertise in chronic conditions such cardiac, neuro or renal care, for example, you are uniquely suited to manage these conditions for patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings. It is not the setting that determines the scope of practice, but the role in which the NP is functioning. Such an FNP might provide continuity services for all diabetic patients in an agency, whether the patient is in outpatient clinic or in-house for an unrelated procedure.

• ADVANCED CLINICAL PRACTICE - Demonstrate and apply the knowledge, skill, and judgment to independently provide direct patient care that incorporates assessment, diagnosis and treatment across the lifespan (geriatrics, adult, women's and pediatrics) within a variety of settings.

HPU’s MSN-AGACNP program prepares students to become critical-care experts as adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioners (AGACNPs). With a flexible schedule that includes core courses, practicums, and capstone options, MSN-AGACNP students have the opportunity to enhance the communities around them while becoming the next generation of healthcare leaders.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The MSN FNP at HPU is a fully accredited 45 credit Masters in Nursing degree with a track population focus in Family, covering all ages across the lifespan this makes the FNP certification the most marketable degree. This is a face to face program with many individual classes augmented with online and hybrid formats. The core MSN programs are taking the first year generally 2 afternoon classes per week if full time and over 2 years if taken part time. The FNP track specific courses are taken after completion of the 18 credit core courses, and these are taken full time 9 credit/term at the graduate level. This allows students to complete the didactic primary care courses prior to starting the practicum placements.
