The Honours year consists of supervised research and coursework available to suitably qualified graduates of Griffith University and other recognized tertiary institutions.

This program enables students to advance the knowledge and experience acquired at the undergraduate level, and prepares them to undertake research work for continued postgraduate studies in this and other universities. It also provides first level training for those wishing to practice as psychologists in Australia.

Professional recognition

The Australian Psychological Society recognizes graduates of this award.

As a graduate of the Honours year in psychology you'll be eligible for general registration, with probationary conditions, as a psychologist in Queensland. You'll be eligible for associate membership with the Australian Psychological Society.

Full registration requires a further two years of approved postgraduate study or supervised on-the-job training with a registered psychologist.

The Psychology Board of Australia requires applicants for registration as a Psychologist for whom English is not the first or native language, to submit evidence to the Board of competency in both oral and written communication in English. Please contact the Psychology Board of Australia for further information regarding requirements.

International students should be aware that an IELTS score of 7.0 is a requirement for conditional registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Successful completion of the National College Entrance Examination (Gao Kao) with a minimum of 63% of the overall maximum score. IELTS: minimum score of 6.5, with no subscore less than 6.0 or TOEFL: a minimum score of 575 or Internet-based (IBT) TOEFL: a score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19) or Pearson Test of English (Academic): an overall score of 58 with no score less than 50 or ISLPR: no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR.
