The Bachelor of Business has a strong practical focus, provides work integrated learning opportunities and equips you with the skills you need to get the job you want.

The course is designed to encourage you to learn through real experiences, which will help you integrate your knowledge, consolidate skills, tackle real problems, and reflect on the experience to develop your professional identity.

This degree will challenge you to take responsibility for your own learning, to engage with people through community and business, and to see yourself as a global citizen.

Course structure

To complete the Bachelor of Business, students must attain a total of 24 credit points. Most units (think of units as 'subjects') are equal to 1 credit point.

The 24 credit points include 12 credit points of core units, one 6 credit point Bachelor of Business major and 6 credit points of elective units. Most students choose to study 4 units per trimester, and usually undertake 2 trimesters each year.

Overview

An understanding of how to manage human resources is critical for all managers. This major provides skills and understanding of the critical dimensions required to successfully manage people. Students develop an understanding of strategic human resource management, human resource development, organizational behavior and change management. In addition, the major also provides skills in workplace counselling and negotiation as well as an understanding of employment relations.

Career outcomes

The Bachelor of Business can lead to a variety of careers in Australia and overseas, including business analyst, project manager, customer relations manager, events manager, business development manager, procurement manager, business operations manager, small business owner or product manager.

Entry for applicants with previous Tertiary, VET, life or work experience will be based on their performance in: a Certificate IV in a related discipline OR a Diploma in any discipline or 50% completion of a Diploma in a related discipline OR successful completion of relevant study at an accredited higher education institution equivalent to at least two Deakin University units OR other evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent for example relevant work or life experience. Other English Language Requirements accepted: IELTS: Overall 6.0, no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (PBT) score of 550 Writing 4.5; TOEFL Internet Based: 65 Writing 21; CPE: 169 no band less than 169; CAE: 169 no band less than 169; PTE: 52-57 No less than 50 in each skill.
