This course explores contemporary research issues and a variety of teaching methodologies in English Language Teaching (ELT). You will broaden your understanding of the theoretical and practical issues faced by ELT teachers and learners in the classroom. The Centre for English Language Learning (CELL) is accredited by the British Council. CELL is also an institutional member of British Association for Lecturers of Academic English (BALEAP) and the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL).

You will take part in teaching practice sessions where appropriate, and examine current research trends and issues. Taught by experts in our British Council accredited CELL, the MA in ELT is aimed at language specialists worldwide, which is why we welcome applications from both native and non-native English speakers and do not always require experience in ELT.

The ELT MA includes specialist modules in Applied Linguistics, ELT Methodology English for Specific Purposes and Course Design, and the Teaching of Receptive and Productive Skills. You can also choose two of the following optional modules: Phonetics and Phonology, Using New Technologies to Teaching ELT, and Teaching Practice. This programme is relevant to the practical and theoretical considerations of ELT today. It is designed primarily to develop your future career prospects in ELT and enhance further postgraduate ELT research.
